Artist James Merriott visits one of the most charming and magical villages in Essex

The very name of Finchingfield sounds as good as it looks. I first completed an Essex Life feature for the November 2005 issue and have portrayed its sumptuous beauty in occasional snow scene features since.

To stand on the wide sloping greens in the village centre is uplifting, where views in every direction are captivating.

Seventeen plus years on from my first issue, I make no apology for wanting to paint it all again. Of course, my style changes with time and I also opted for a square format of paper shape.

These changes do spur me on, but it was one other reason for portraying yet another six Finchingfield watercolours.

Summing up, the charms of Finchingfield for me are eternal and I remain grateful that my rendition of its magic, I can share with you. My sincere thanks to you all.

I wanted so much to include them in my newly established website, which can be found at jamesmerriott.com
